2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball

2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball is the “to be continued” from Series 1. It expands the overall flagship checklist and also adds some new elements. In a nutshell, it’s similar to what Series 2 has been for years.

Collectors can expect a variety of box and pack configurations. Standard hobby boxes continue to promise either an autograph or a memorabilia card while hobby jumbo boxes have the trifecta of an autograph, memorabilia card and a manufactured relic.

2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball Checklist Overview

The base set has another 330 cards, bringing the full 2022 Topps Baseball set to 660 total cards. Here, it’s the second half with numbers 331-660. Team cards and Future Stars join veterans and rookies not in the first set.

One hundred base cards also have Clear versions done on acetate. Once again, these have ten copies each and are exclusive to regular hobby packs.

Inserts

2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball inserts are a mix of continuing themes and new ones.

Generation Now gets its second of three planned parts. Another 30 cards are added to the checklist, which centers on MLB’s young talent. It’s actually based on an insert set with the same name from 2007.

For something with a little more bling, at least in its background graphics, there’s Diamond Greats Die-Cut. Legends get the attention here with an additional 25 cards from the set that started in Series 1.

Both of these have Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. They also have autographs for select cards that are numbered to 10 or less.

Another part two in Series 2 is Salute to the Mick. Three more short print Mickey Mantle inserts are in here. By the time Update Series releases, there will be a total of nine cards in this set.

Sweet Shades uses photos of players wearing sunglasses. Further committing to the theme, these are printed on foilboard. Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1) parallels are available along with autographs (/10 or less).

Other insert sets in 2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball include Significant Statistics, which looks at leaders in advanced stat categories from the previous season, and No-Hit Club, a historical look at pitchers who have tossed a no-no. Both of these have similar parallel structures as other inserts.

One-of-a-kind sketch cards featuring original art are in hobby and hobby jumbo packs.

Back to 1987 Topps Baseball

It’s more 1987 Topps Baseball, this time with an All-Star spin. It’s yet another tribute to the 35-year-old design and part of a year-long program. The popular woodgrain design has been used for several throwback sets over the years including one similar to this just a few years ago in 2017.

These all have Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/75), Red (/10), Platinum (1/1) and Wood (1/1) versions as well.

Twenty-five of these cards get blown up for Oversized 1987 Topps Baseball All-Stars Boxloaders. These are only in hobby jumbo boxes. Parallels include Gold (/50), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1).

The design carries over to autographs for a couple of similar but separate sets. First, there are 1987 Topps Baseball Autographs. These drop the All-Star theme. Parallels include Black (/199 or less), Gold (/50 or less ), Red (/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1).

1987 Topps Baseball All-Star Autographs are also available. Parallel colors are the same, but print runs are smaller: Black (/50 or less), Gold (/25 or less), Red (/10 or less) and Platinum (1/1).

Wrapping up the 1987 theme in Series 2 are relics, which come with pieces of gear. These have their own Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1) parallels.

Commemorative Relics

Hobby and hobby jumbo packs have a pair of exclusive manufactured relics. All-Star Alumni pairs players with patches from the year they appeared in the Midsummer Classic.

Silver Slugger Award Patches has 25 winners of the batting award, each with a commemorative patch.

Both have Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1) parallels as well as autographs for some cards (/10 or less). Silver Slugger Award Patches cards also have Black versions (/299).

Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

Not all of the hits in 2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball are essentially parallels of other insert sets. Some others stand alone.

On the signature side, there are Baseball Stars Autographs, which are paired with Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1) versions. Baseball Stars Dual Autographs have a maximum of five copies each.

Topps Reverence Autograph Patch cards (/10) return as hobby and hobby jumbo exclusives. These have both an on-card autograph and premium swatch. Parallels are Red (/5) and Platinum (1/1).

Major League Material is a source for a lot of the memorabilia cards in Series 2. Besides the base versions, these have Black (/199), Gold (/50 or less), Red (/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. There are also autographs that have 50 copies or less.

Cut Signatures are among the scarcest cards in the product. Each is a one-of-one.

2022 Topps Baseball Silver Packs

Silver packs are included in all hobby boxes. Regular hobby boxes have one while hobby jumbo come with two.

Inside each are exclusive Chrome cards not available elsewhere.
